TITLE:                    AREA SALES MANAGER – JOHANNESBURG / PRETORIA

Our client is the largest Audio and Video intercom Company in South Africa and it is supplying the broadest portfolio of systems from Audio and Video Intercom Systems products, Gate Automation, Door Automation, Parking Systems, Traffic Barriers, Turnstiles, Access Control Systems, CCTV and others to a wide range of customers throughout the South Africa. They have of forty years of access automation experience.

Due to this growth and recent acquisitions, they now have a vacancy for an Area Sales Manager, based at Johannesburg Head Office, ideally with a technical sales background.

 YOU

You must have your own car and be living within close proximity of our HQ, be flexible and in order to plan effective management of the territory must have a good geographic appreciation of the area. You will be a real self-starter, capable of succeeding with minimal supervision and hungry to earn. You must have a demonstrable record of achievement preferably in a related industry, a level of acumen commensurate with this important role and a real can-do attitude.

THE TERRITORY

The territory will cover the whole area of the great Johannesburg and will expand up to Pretoria.

Whilst these areas have been managed by the current sales team up to this point, this has been done on a largely reactive basis and consequently insufficient effort has been made to develop the customer base to its full potential. This now provides an excellent opportunity to assume responsibility for a largely untapped area offering you and the company tremendous growth prospects.

THE ROLE

The role has three clear strategic goals, all being important at the same level.

The First goal would be the development of sales through third party resellers, such as Security product distributors or wholesalers. The extensive nature of the territory will involve staying away from home sometime during the year for which all usual expenses will be paid. The company will provide all the necessary communication tools expected in today’s sales environment.

The Second goal is to develop sales to the direct installer channel which ranges from a one man, home based operation where access and automation play a critical role in the viability of their businesses to larger enterprises where access products may represent one of several disciplines in which the company is involved.

The Third strategic goal is to develop sales through Projects and focus on Parking Systems.

This will involve constant contacts with Specifiers, Architects, and Consulting Engineers, Parking operators and Parking Consultants. A proven track record and previous experiences in a Project related sales cycle will be considered advantageous.

You would be expected to work in a structured manner following set procedures and activities such as:

  • Report to the Sales Manager (ad interim the Managing Director)
  • 4 days in the field with 1 day for admin and appointment making per week.
  • Attendance at the Branch office for sales meetings and at JHB HQ, when required.
  • Timely diary and weekly reporting.
  • Sufficient productivity levels.
  • Achieving fiscal targets.
  • Making own appointments.
  • Sourcing of new customers.

With such a large prospect database to approach we offer a substantial back office function with dedicated internal sales supports, a good marketing support, a comprehensive training programme and a structured technical support system.

THE PACKAGE

The role attracts

  • A basic salary of up to R 23k/month, equivalent to R 276k/year for the right candidate
  • An attractive commission structure (uncapped).

  • Petrol expenses for business travel at AA rates, which include maintenance costs

  • Membership to the company Medical Aid fund (optional)
  • 15 days holiday per year.
